Notes RAN is the only ROAR measure requiring verbal responses; thus, it is best administered in a private setting, rather than in a large group where students may be distracted by others’ verbal responses. RAN is a risk indicator, but it does not have instructional implications.

Description Simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems are shown on the screen one at a time with progressive difficulty. Students pick one of two answer choices. The assessment begins with addition and subtraction (e.g. 2+3) and later incorporates multiplication and division (e.g. 3x4), if students progress far enough.

Description Multi-digit addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems are shown on the screen one at a time with progressive difficulty. Students pick one of six answer choices. The assessment is split into three parts, where students solve addition and subtraction problems in the first part (e.g. 27 + 46), and the second and third parts introduce multiplication and division problems (e.g. 23 x 6).

Description Problems representing the continuum of math standards, such as basic arithmetic, fractions and decimals, algebraic equations, and more, are presented on the screen one at a time. Problems become more advanced as the student progresses through the assessment and end once the student reaches a ceiling in their procedural knowledge.
